Important Information for Holman’s Autodesk Customers

The ways we design and build the world are changing rapidly, which is also changing the tools we use and the ways companies and individuals buy and access software.

Autodesk is continuing its transition to subscription-based products, which offer customers a lower entry price, greater choice of tools and the ability to pay-as-you-go. With its shift away from software “ownership” or perpetual licenses, Autodesk plans to continually innovate and improve its Desktop Subscription products, more tightly integrating them with cloud services, allowing accessibility from multiple devices and at any time, make them easier to deploy and manage, and reduce file compatibility issues.

Autodesk Subscription Policy Changes 2016

March 6, 2015: The Autodesk upgrade policy changed and upgrades from previous releases are no longer be available. Autodesk Maintenance Subscription continues to be the most cost-effective way to manage your software investment and remain current on Autodesk products.

Selective crossgrades of current version perpetual licenses to higher value current version perpetual licenses are eligible (i.e. individual crossgrade to Design Suites).

 

January 31, 2016: In the first phase of this transition, new licenses of individual perpetual software products, (excluding Design and Creation Suites), will not be available for purchase. After that time, those individual products will be available only for rent as a Desktop Subscription. Desktop Subscription is now available as quarterly, annual, 2-year and 3-year multi-year plans. Customers that already have a perpetual license or who purchase a perpetual license through January 31, 2016, will be able to continue to use those licenses going forward. Customers with Maintenance Subscription on those perpetual licenses will continue to receive corresponding benefits for as long as the Maintenance Subscription remains active.

July 31, 2016: The next step is to transition the remaining majority of Autodesk’s product portfolio, including Autodesk Design and Creation Suites, to an entirely subscription-based offering. Autodesk will no longer sell perpetual licenses of most Autodesk Design & Creation Suites and individual products. Those who purchase a perpetual license of Autodesk Design & Creation Suites and affected products prior to July 31, 2016, will continue to own and have full usage rights for those licenses, and customers on Maintenance for those perpetual licenses will continue to receive corresponding benefits for as long as they continue to renew their Maintenance.

Network Subscription

Autodesk Network Subscription Policy Changes 2016

“Network subscription” will be a new offering that is intended to allow current network license Maintenance Subscription customers to add term-based networked licenses to their pool of existing networked perpetual licenses after January 31, 2016. These new “network subscriptions” will also include Subscription benefits and are offered for a fixed term length.

 

Autodesk Subscription Renewal Policy Changes

Starting February 1st 2016 there will no longer be any late renewals or any grace period to renew contracts past their expiration date – all Autodesk Subscription Contracts MUST be renewed on time. Maintenance Subscription will no longer allow renewal up to 364 days after expiration; additionally, Late Fees will no longer apply. It is recommended that customers renew subscription contracts prior to expiration to continue uninterrupted access to Autodesk products and services. Renewing after expiration has negative impacts and will need to purchase a new contract (Desktop Subscription, Cross-Grade to a Design & Creation Suite with Maintenance Subscription). For example, customers may lose purchased cloud credits, may receive new serial numbers, and will need to reestablish Named User assignments.
